Events
Jazz/Art festival: Every year in April or May, thousands of music lovers flock to this annual event, which is ranked as the second-best festival in the Caribbean. You can expect big-name jazz artists from all over the world for a ten-day extravaganza, and there’s a real party vibe from start to finish. Beautiful Pigeon Island provides a backdrop to the main stage, with previous performers including Luther Vandross, Rihanna and Elton John.
St lucia carnival: Carnival season kicks off in June and runs through to mid-July. It’s all about colourful street parades and neon costumes in Castries Town. You’ll love hearing the traditional steel bands doing their thing.
Getting around
By taxi: Driving on St Lucia holidays is best left to experienced taxi drivers. Most drivers will offer you a guided tour of the whole island for a flat fee.
By minibus: If you want an authentic travel experience, this is the way to go. Each minibus holds around 10 people and runs between rural areas and urban centres (such as Castries), and it’s an affordable way to get around and get to know the locals.
